About Us
In January 2016, Drone and Phone published its first episode, Hiking the Dragon’s Back. The concept was simple, to make five short videos of the best hikes in Hong Kong using a Drone and a Phone to record the journeys.
Six years on and we have now created more than 500 videos of adventure, endurance and dedication from all over the world.
This website is designed as a reference tool to find activities for all the family around the region. While the focus has been on Hong Kong outdoor activities that can be done within a day, we now also have expanding sections on destinations in the Chinese mainland and around Asia. Here you will find places you can reach with a short flight where there are lots of activities to explore.
OUR TEAM
We have DJ Clark, Jack Yao and Robert Hope-Jones, plus many great reporters like George Chan and Chloe Feng who have since moved on to other things. We are united by our love of the outdoors, with a little adventure thrown into the mix. Below are the three reporters currently on our team.
DJ Clark
DJ Clark has over 30 years experience working for international media organisations all over the world as a visual journalist, presenter and film maker. In 2015 he moved to Hong Kong and soon after started this channel as a way to share his explorations around the region.
Jack Yao
Jack Yao is an experienced hiker/camper/biker, video producer, specialising in race reports, gear reviews and feature documentaries.
Robert Hope-Jones
Rob is our biking expert as well as an expert photographer and videographer. He has been in Hong Kong longer than he likes to admit and has been responsible for helping build and maintain some of the region’s best mountain bike trails.
