Hong Kong’s 10 Best Bike Rides

Ma On Shan to Tai Mei Tuk

We’re kicking off our road trip with the easiest of all the rides, a 23-kilometer route along the New Territories Cycle Network.

Distance: 23 km | Time: 4 hrs | Difficulty: 1

Lantau Bike Park

Lantau’s bike park is a great way to explore the off-road side of cycling. Located atop a mountain overlooking the town of Mui Wo, it’s only a short ride from the local ferry pier

Distance: 20 km | Time: 2 hrs | Difficulty: 2.5

Central to Shek O

Here we go with a classic Hong Kong road ride that flows up and out of the city’s heartland along coastal roads that hug the island’s steep mountainsides.

Distance: 56 km | Time: 4 hrs | Difficulty: 3

Lamma Island

Hong Kong’s third largest island contains a unique and well-established interconnected network of homegrown mountain bike trails, some of which are highly rated for their technical difficulty.

Distance: 10 km | Time: 2.5 hrs | Difficulty: 3.5

Lantau Island Loop

While its heady mountain range curates spaces for some of the region’s most technical riding up along the Chi Ma Wan trail, the island comes into its own when you want a good road trip.

Distance: 47 km | Time: 3 hrs | Difficulty: 3

Up and Down the Peak

When people mention traveling up to the Peak, buses and tram spring to mind. Seldom do bikes enter the conversation, yet it’s a legitimate way to see one of the world’s most photographed harbor views.

Distance: 32 km | Time: 3 hrs | Difficulty: 2.5

Coast to Coast

In this ride, we take on one of the longer road routes in the series with a 55-kilometer adventure navigating sections of the New Territories Cycle Track Network from the east coast to the west coast.

Distance: 55 km | Time: 5 hrs | Difficulty: 3.5

Watery Wonderland

This unique 79-kilometer route begins in Tai Lam Country Park (just off Route Twisk) at an altitude of around 550 meters.

Distance: 79 km | Time: 5 hrs | Difficulty: 3.5

Top Trail Trio

An epic off-road ride across Tai Lam Chung Country Park, the region’s mountain biking mecca with its extensive network of technical and cross-country trails.

Distance: 30 km | Time: 3.5 hrs | Difficulty: 4

Riding High

At 60 kilometers, it’s not our longest route, yet the strenuous climbs ahead (and ultimately the ride up Tai Mo Shan) will see you conquer Hong Kong’s highest peak on a bicycle.

Distance: 60 km | Time: 5 hrs | Difficulty: 5
