Lantau Trail

Sections 1 & 2

Much of the first two sections involve a slow hike up Sunset Peak. Section one takes you along a South Lantau Road up to Nam Shan where the real work begins as you leave the road and start a long climb. 

Distance: 9 km | Time: 3.5 hrs | Difficulty: 4

Sections 3 & 4

Section three starts at Pak Kung Au and takes you straight up Lantau Peak, the second tallest mountain in Hong Kong. Section four is relatively flat and easy as it takes you on a contour around Ngong Ping.

Sections 5 & 6

Section five starts on the other side of Keung Shan Road and starts with a steep climb up to the first of a series of hills. Section six finishes the loop with a trail that takes you back off the ridge and down to Tai O.

Sections 7 – 9

Section seven is a relatively flat coastal path that takes you around the remote south west corner of the island, onto a catch water. Section eight is along a catch water and down to the Shek Pik Reservoir which you cross in section nine.

Distance: 23.5 km | Time: 6.5 hrs | Difficulty: 3

Sections 10 – 12

It starts with a climb up to the catch water before a long flat hike with occasional views over south Lantau. Section eleven continues along the catch water to the end before taking on a forested path down to the road.The final section is long and proves a little challenge to prove your worth before claiming the trail.
