Lantau Trail Sections 5 & 6

The Lantau Trail is a 70-kilometer long-distance hiking trail located on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It is known for its diverse and scenic landscapes, ranging from coastal areas and beaches to mountainous terrain and forests.

These two sections are our favorite at Drone and Phone as you leave most of the crowds and head off on a remote spectacular ridge. Section five starts on the other side of Keung Shan Road and starts with a steep climb up to the first of a series of hills. The trail makes a loop along the ridge encircling Tai O which is in sight for much of the journey below.

Section six finishes the loop with a trail that takes you back off the ridge and down to Tai O.

DIRECTIONS

Get to the start: Take any bus from Tung Chung or Mui Wo to Ngong Ping or Tai O and get off at the Fat Hwa Yuen bus stop.

Get home: There are three main options from Tai O. Buses leave the bus station at regular intervals for Mui Wo and Tung Chung. There is also a more pleasant but irregular ferry service to Tung Chung and a taxi rank. If it is very busy there are also informal shared speedboats that will take you back to Tung Chung.
