Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail

Winding its way through lush forests, rolling hills, and tranquil valleys, the Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail offers a unique perspective on Hong Kong’s rich biodiversity and striking landscapes. Along the way, hikers are treated to a variety of scenic vistas, including panoramic views of the iconic Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, and Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong’s highest peak.

Robin’s Nest

Robin’s Nest, or Hung Fa Leng in Chinese, is a 13-km hike that offers magnificent city views, a  peak into an old mine, lots of old and current forts, and a peek at a cave along the Hong Kong-Shenzhen border. The trail runs along an area in the northeast corner of Hong Kong in the New Territories, which used to be a forbidden zone and is now partially open to hikers.

Castle Peak & Pineapple Mountain

Once up Castle Peak you follow a trail down to Sze Tsz Tao where the trail spills out into a desert like landscape. Possibly the highlight of the hike is Pineapple Mountain also know as the Grand Canyon of Hong Kong.

Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail

Don’t be fooled by what looks like an easy 18km trail. The Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail is picturesque but soon gets a lot tougher as the hills rise to around 300m and almost drop to the sea in between.

The Yellow Dragons

The Yellow Dragon is not for everyone though. It’s steep, tough, and at times dangerous.

Plover Cove

This 13 KM loop, starting at the Bride’s pool, has a start over to Sam A Wan before crossing over to the old Hakka village of Lai Chi Wo. The trail feels very remote and has some spectacular views along the way. The village of Lai Chi Wo is worth spending some time in to explore before making your way back up the Tiu Tang Lung path.

Discovery Bay to Mui Wo

Not for the faint hearted this hike takes in a spectacular ridge as you move from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo the hard way.

Buffalo Hills

It’s short, tough and at times steep, but there is much to recommend on this stunning adventure in the Ma On Shan Country Park as you cross from Sha Tin to Sai Kung.

Lam Tsuen Country Park

This walk has a good mix of reservoir, forest and mountain as it combines sections from the Wilson and MacLehose trails to wind its way up to the peak before a sharp drop back down to Route Twisk.

The Mount Stenhouse Loop

This 21 km hike starts in the north of Lamma at the Pak Kok Ferry Pier and works it’s way slowly around the island. The hike includes the two highest points aas well as the two main population centres.

Pak Tam Chung March

This 20-km trail in Sai Kung is full of surprises. Starting in Pak Tam Chung it starts with a climb up and over the Yung Pak Corridor passing the MacLehose Trail and down to the village of Yung Shue O. Here you join the coast for a flat section along the Tolo Harbour ending at the enchanting village of Sam Chung.

Tseung Kwan O Loop

The new town of Tseung Kwan O can feel like a concrete jungle but look up and you will see it is surrounded by hills. This 20km loop never drifts far from the town but takes you on a 20km loop around the hills.

Tung O Ancient Trail

Starting in the water village of Tai O, the 15 km walk takes you through old fishing villages as it winds it’s way past the airport, the Hong Kong to Macau and Zhuhai Bridge and the ancient Tung Chung Fort.

Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail

Tucked away off the more popular MacLehose Trail is the little known Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail. The main trail is just over 1 km but of course we wanted more, so we created a 13km loop that also takes in Nung Fung Wan, The High Island Reservoir and Pat Tau Tun.
