Short Walks

Bowen Road

Bowen Road is a reasonably flat concrete road with great views over Victoria Harbour and beyond. The contour walk above Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central is great for the kids as you can finish in Hong Kong Park at the end.

Mount Cameron

Most of the peaks on Hong Kong Island are on popular hiking routes but few people make the effort to summit Mount Cameron. This is an off beat trail with lots of surprises and highly recommended for the more adventurous hiker looking for a short hike.

Distance: 4.4 km | Time: 2 hrs | Difficulty: 2

Kap Lung Ancient Trail

If you want to get a feel for another age in Hong Kong, take the Kap Lung Trail. It starts and finishes on Route Twisk, and follows an ancient route from Yuen Long to a market at Yuen Wan. We went up the trail but an easier route would be to start at the top of route Twisk and work your way down.

Distance: 2.6 km | Time: 2 hrs | Difficulty: 2

Lion Rock

Starting with a scramble up the side of Lion Rock this is the short way to the top but involves some simple rock climbing in places. From the top take in the iconic views across Kowloon before taking a much easier path down and into Lion Rock Park.

Distance: 3 km | Time: 2 hrs | Difficulty: 3

Pottinger Country Trail

This short trail has plenty of options and well worth the effort for the views alone. Starting in Chai Wan set out along Dragon Tail road.

Distance: 4 km | Time: 2 hrs | Difficulty: 2

Rhino Rock

The Rhino is not the only one as we thought we had found it several times before we reached the most iconic one. The walk is there and back but affords some great views.

Distance: 1.4 km | Time: 1 hrs | Difficulty: 1

To the Peak

The hike is short, mainly flat or downhill and has superb views over all of Hong Kong Island and beyond to Kowloon. The views along Lugard road are in our mind one of the best vantage points in Hong Kong so bring a camera.

Distance: 3.2 km | Time: 1 hrs | Difficulty: 1

Hiking Tsing Yi

This hike surprised us. Tsing Yi is known for the port and associated industries as well as a residential stop on the route to the airport. Above the bustle around the edges are some great and surprisingly tall mountains with magnificent city views.

Distance: 12.6 km | Time: 3 hrs | Difficulty: 3
