Tinworth Sections 1-2

Section 1 of the Tinworth Trail begins in Sha Tau Kok, skirting the edge of Hong Kong’s Frontier Closed Area and immediately immersing hikers in the quiet hills of Robin’s Nest Country Park. The trail climbs steadily through dense woodland and past relics of Hong Kong’s border history, including a derelict military observation post overlooking Shenzhen. As the path winds along Lin Ma Hang Road and into the Lin Ma Hang Country Trail, sweeping views of the borderlands unfold, offering a rare glimpse into the intersection of nature and geopolitics. The section ends at Tai Tong Wu village, a peaceful spot with basic amenities and a chance to catch your breath before the next climb.

Section 2 picks up from Tai Tong Wu and heads deeper into the northern New Territories, tracing the Hok Tau Country Trail through shaded forest and quiet farmland. The route passes Hok Tau Reservoir, a tranquil body of water surrounded by lush greenery, and continues toward Lau Shui Heung Reservoir, where reflections of the forest shimmer on the surface. From there, the trail climbs Lung Shan, a rugged hill with steep, storm-damaged paths that demand careful footing. The descent into Fanling offers a dramatic shift from wilderness to urban edge, with the town’s bustle just minutes from the trail’s end—making it a convenient resupply point before tackling the more mountainous sections ahead.
