Tinworth 7-8

Section 7 of the Tinworth Trail marks a dramatic shift in scenery as hikers leave the New Territories behind and venture onto Lantau Island. Starting from Sunny Bay, the trail climbs through quiet hills and ridgelines that offer sweeping views of the South China Sea and the urban sprawl of Tung Chung. The ascent toward Lai Pik Shan and Tai Che Tung is steady but rewarding, with open terrain and coastal panoramas that contrast sharply with the forested paths of earlier sections. As the trail descends into Discovery Bay, the atmosphere softens—lush greenery, manicured paths, and glimpses of seaside living create a tranquil interlude before the next climb.

Section 8 begins with a bold ascent of Lo Fu Tau, also known as Tigerhead, a rugged granite peak that dominates the skyline above Discovery Bay. The climb is steep and exposed, but the summit rewards hikers with one of the most expansive views on the entire Tinworth Trail—stretching from Kowloon to the outlying islands. After the summit, the trail descends into Pak Mong via the Lo Fu Tau Country Trail and the Olympic Trail, passing through quiet forest and historic village paths. This section blends raw natural beauty with cultural heritage, offering a satisfying mix of challenge and serenity as the trail winds toward the final stages on Lantau.
