Lantau Trail Sections 1 & 2
The Lantau Trail is a 70-kilometer long-distance hiking trail located on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It is known for its diverse and scenic landscapes, ranging from coastal areas and beaches to mountainous terrain and forests.
Much of the first two sections involve a slow hike up Sunset Peak. Section one takes you along a South Lantau Road up to Nam Shan where the real work begins as you leave the road and start a long climb.
The trail starts in forest and then opens up once you get beyond the tree line. A key feature is the Lan Tau Ying Campsite, a series of huts on the hill before the summit. The trail misses the peak but rather skirts round near the top and then goes into a fast decent down to Pak Kung Au.

DIRECTIONS
Get to the start: The quickest way to the start is a bus route 3M/11/23 from Tung Chung MTR to Pak Kung Au (buses to Mui Wo, Ngong Ping, and Tai O will all pass this way). Alternatively, you can take a bus from outside the Mui Wo ferry terminal to Tung Chung, but the more pleasant route is by boat from Central Ferry Piers.
Get home: Pak Kung Au sits on Tung Chung Road between Tung Chung and Mui Wo. There are regular buses back to Mui Wo (left) or the closer option is down to Tung Chung (right).
