Stanley Ho to Wong Chuk Hang

If finding places you have not seen before in Hong Kong is your thing, this walk is sure to deliver. Starting where we left off near the Chicago University campus the hike starts along Victoria Road around Sandy Bay and then drops down to the sports fields at Telegragh Bay.

Getting back on the road it continues along the front at Cyberport before dropping down to the hidden Waterfall Bay. Continuing on a mix of promenade, parks and roads it slowly makes it’s way over to the industrial area of Tin Wan, through the fish market and back out along Aberdeen Promenade to Wong Chuk Hang MTR. It is not always the prettiest trail but you get a slice of the whole city in a 9 km stretch.

DIRECTIONS

Get to the start:

  1. There are buses from Aberdeen and Central that will take you along Victoria Road where you drop off at the Chicago University campus to start the second part of the Hong Kong Island Coastal Trail.
  2. Set off along Victoria Road with the sea on your right up until the Sandy Bay Road turn off which you turn down to the playing fields.
  3. You can try and walk by the sea behind the playing fields but we found it hard to get out at the end, so suggest sticking to the road.
  4. This joins Cyberport road which you take looking for a cut down to the waterfront.
  5. Continue along the waterfront to the end where you are forced back onto Cyberport Road that will take you down to waterfall bay.
  6. We found a shortcut through to Waterfall Bay to avoid a big loop around the Wah Fu Estate (see the google map).
  7. You can then follow the Waterfall Bay Park all the way round to Tin Wan Praya Road which you will need to follow through to the Fish Market which you can walk through and onto Aberdeen Promenade.
  8. The final stretch is along the promenade to the end, cross the bridge and follow the river up to the MTR station.
