The Length of Lamma Hike

There are four official long trails in Hong Kong, but at Drone and Phone we felt there was space for at least one more. We came up with this trail to take in many of the islands missed by the others and allow some extra time for enjoying them. Designed for a ten day trip, the Islands Trail takes you on a loop around the region.

This day on Lamma starts with a ferry ride from Central followed by a gentle climb through the streets of Yung Shue Wan to Lamma Winds, Hong Kong’s only commercial windmill. From there the trail takes you off the main trail and over the spine of the island down to Sok Kwa Wan for a seafood lunch.

In the afternoon we climb up and over a pass between Mount Stenhouse and Lin Kok Shan down to Turtle Beach. This is off limits during the breeding season so best to check before you go, otherewise head straight for Tung O Wan, the camping spot for the night.

DIRECTIONS

Get to the start: We start at Central Ferry Piers, easily accessed by Central or Hong Kong MTR.

Get home: If you prefer not to camp continue on to Mo Tat Wan for a ferry back to Aberdeen. The service is infrequent so check the timetable and allow 30 minutes to get there.
