Park Island

Park Island is not known for its hikes, but we find two loops that will stretch into a hike and keep the kids happy along the way.

It starts with a short loop around the south side of the island, taking you up to the highest point, Tai Leng Tau, with sweeping views across three major Hong Kong bridges. The second loop takes you into the Ma Wan Park Nature Garden, with lots of things for the kids to explore. You can add a trip to Noah’s Ark Theme Park if you want, or a trip to the beach.

DIRECTIONS

Get to the start:

    1. Take a bus or ferry from Central to Park Island, which will drop you at the north point of the island.
    2. Walk along the promenade to Ma Wan Tung Beach, which you can cross to the far end. From there, skip past Noah’s Ark, head under the flyover, and make your way to the far end of the Ma Wan Nature Park.
    3. Look for a small road that takes you under the main Lantau Link Road, and then turn left up a small road. There are signs on the road to a path that brings you to Tai Leng Tau, which you pass before descending down with wonderful views over the Ma Wan Channel.
    4. Loop back to the place you left in the Ma Wan Nature Park, and this time, follow the signs to Solar Villas. From the Villas, turn right along the small nature paths up to Hilltop Lookout, which is great for plane watching, before coming back down through the Australian Garden and back to Noah’s Ark.
