Tinworth 5-6

Section 5 of the Tinworth Trail offers a welcome reprieve from the steep climbs of earlier stages, guiding hikers on a gentle descent from Rotary Park to the historic Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail. This 6.7 km stretch is mostly flat or downhill, winding through Chuen Lung village and past tranquil ponds before reaching a catch-water path that hugs the hillside. The route is shaded and peaceful, making it ideal for a slower-paced walk or recovery day. Along the way, hikers can enjoy glimpses of Tai Mo Shan’s forested slopes and take advantage of food and drink options in Chuen Lung before continuing toward the next climb.

Section 6 reintroduces elevation as the trail ascends the Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail, climbing roughly 250 meters over 2 km. The path offers stunning views back toward Tsing Yi and Ma Wan, especially if you pause during the ascent. At Shek Lung Kung pavilion, hikers can choose a short detour to summit the peak before descending past the eerie ruins of Lin Fa Shan’s abandoned school. The trail then rolls through undulating hills and picturesque villages like Tsing Fai Tong, with lilyponds and quiet lanes, before finishing in Sham Tseng. This marks the end of the New Territories portion of the Tinworth Trail, and a transition point for those continuing toward Lantau Island.
