Tinworth Sections 9-10
Section 9 of the Tinworth Trail launches hikers into one of the most demanding climbs of the entire route, ascending nearly 700 meters from Pak Mong village to the summit of Sunset Peak. The trail begins steep and overgrown but quickly opens up to reveal sweeping views of the Lantau massif and the coastline stretching toward Tung Chung and the airport. After reaching the Lantau Trail junction, hikers descend sharply into the Wong Lung Hang valley, navigating a long series of steps that drop back to sea level. This section is a test of endurance, but the dramatic scenery and sense of isolation make it a highlight for those seeking a true mountain experience.
Section 10 offers a gentler finale, tracing the Tung O Ancient Trail from Tung Chung to the fishing village of Tai O. The route meanders along the coast, passing through wetlands, quiet villages, and beneath the Ngong Ping cable car. With the airport fading into the distance, the final kilometers open up to views across the Pearl River Delta. The trail ends in Tai O, where stilt houses and narrow lanes mark the finish of the 90 km journey. It’s a fitting conclusion—peaceful, scenic, and steeped in local culture—offering a moment of reflection before stepping back into the rhythms of daily life.
