Yellow Dragons
The Yellow Dragon valley is one of our hardest walks but can also be the most fun if your kids are into rock hopping. The walk starts in Tung Chung where you can either grab a mini bus or a taxi to the start from Tung Chung MTR after which you start up a single track road along the valley. At the end of the road you skirt round to the side of the river for a few hundred meters along a path before setting off directly upstream jumping rocks as you go. Try and pick a dry day as slippy rocks will not make this fun.
Negotiate your way past waterfalls, rock pools until you reach the very end where three tall waterfalls (dragons) plummet to the valley end. The walk does involve some small climbs and is very technical so we highly recommend taking a professional guide if you and your kids are not experienced adventurers. Find one over at https://www.wildhongkong.com. Never attempt this walk after or during heavy rain as the river may swell and pose a danger of flash flooding.

DIRECTIONS
Get to the start:
-
- Start at the Tung Chung MTR station and either take the 34 Mini bus or a blue taxi to Shek Mun Kap Village.
- Walk up the Wong Lung Hang Road past the picnic site to the end of the road where you see a water works building.
- Go round to the right of the building following a small path for a few hundred meters before the path brings you onto the river.
- From here it’s a simple case of following the river upstream. Where you reach waterfalls or other blocks look for marked climbs to the side with ropes and other infrastructure. Never trust the ropes which are not professionally maintained.
- Once you reach the end of the valley (blocked by the third waterfall. Turn around and return the way you came. There is an adventurous route out, up to Sunset Peak but it is extremely dangerous and not recommended for children.
